How to speedbridge
So your friends keep laughing at you for not being able to speed bridge. Well, there's a simple solution to that: learn to speed bridge. It might take hours, or even days to learn how. And even longer to master the skill. Well, it's totally worth it. Whether you are playing bedwars, an SMP, or a mod, this skill is one of the most helpful skills to learn.
The first step is to practice the angle. You want a 45 degree angle with the block that you are placing on. This is a better angle to bridge than straight backwards, because 1) it gives you a larger area to place your block, and 2) you actually move faster. This is because you are moving sideways and backwards at the same time, and that speed added up is greater than the speed of moving just backwards.
(Note: you can choose whatever angle you want to speed bridge, either to the left (like me) or to the right. for the rest of this guide i will tell you to push AS if you are angled to the left, but if you are bridging to the right you have to push SD instead.)
Next, you need to hold down shift and AS. This is to move diagonally while also not falling off the bridge. If you are holding down AS but are drifting away from the center of the block, that's because you didn't get the 45 degree angle right. Practice until you can hold down AS while not moving a lot to the side.
Now for the hard part. Timing. As you can see in the GIF below, it is extremely fast. Eventually, though, it gets baked into your muscle memory. That's why practice is so important.
You have to right click to place the block, unshift so you can move along the block faster, then shift again right before you fall off the block. If you shift too early, you will bridge slower. If you shift too late, you fall off your bridge. Then, right after you shift, wait until you get to the edge of the block, then right click again and repeat the process. If you get too much momentum and you are going forward too fast, you can reset it by jumping and placing blocks up while holding shift the whole time.
Recap (tl;dr):
- Get a 45 degree angle with the block.
- Hold down shift and AS.
- Right click, then immediately unshift.
- Travel along the block until you are right about to fall off, then shift again.
- Repeat steps 2-4.
That's it! The hardest part is getting the timing with the shifting. The only way to get better is to practice until you get it. If you liked my guide and learned how to speedbridge from it, please comment below!
